For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Macintosh OSX systems administrator to provide advanced technical computer support for systems in this heterogeneous OSX and Linux environment. You will work in a challenging team-oriented environment to solve a variety of complex technical problems in a timely manner. This position is in the Computer Systems Support (CSS) Division matrixed to the Operations and Business (O&B) Programin the Computation Directorate.
 
This position will be filled at either the 393.1 or 393.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
 
Essential Duties
- Provide expertise for the complex installations, configurations, and hardware and/or software upgrades.
- Exercise independent judgment to resolve complex systems and network-related problems.
- Provide advanced technical assistance to the user community.
- Collaborate with management, customers, and team members to evaluate and recommend procurements of Apple Macintosh OSX hardware and software.
- Independently resolve problems, requiring highly advanced knowledge of OSX.
- Define and develop support, problem analysis, and problem resolution practices and procedures.
- Direct complex troubleshooting activities.
- Maintain appropriate technology, computer security, and safety knowledge.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the 393.2 Level
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve highly complex system and network-related problems.
- Serve as a technical leader and an internal and external consultant in area of expertise, providing highly advanced technical assistance to the user community and collaborating with customers in the design of their computing environment.
- Mentor and coach employees in their technical and customer service skills and abilities.
  
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a computer-related field or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
- Broad and in-depth knowledge and technical experience with OSX, and/or Linux operating systems.
- Experience directing complex troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities and independently resolve complex problems.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise effective customer support skills in a diverse user community with widely varying levels of computer literacy.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills, with ability to work independently and interact with a multi-disciplinary staff in a team environment.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.
In Addition at the 393.2 Level
- Highly advanced knowledge of and significant experience with OSX, and/or Linux operating systems.
- Significant experience mentoring employees in technical skills.
- Significant experience serving as a technical team lead on projects, achieving positive results, and driving projects to closure on time and on budget.
 
Desired Qualifications
- Broad and in-depth knowledge and technical expertise with enterprise support tools for management, patching, or software distribution, computer network hardware, software, protocols, and principles, Windows computer security concepts and practices, computer network hardware/software, protocols and principles, and/or Linux operating systems.
- Experience leading a technical project or team.
- Professional computer certification (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, CompTIA A+, ACSP, RedHat) or a professional network certification (e.g., CCNA).

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
 

Anticipated Clearance Level:  Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

 

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
