We have an opening for a Lead Pulse Power Engineer and you will be responsible for the design and implementation of megajoule-class pulsed power systems and highly specialized diagnostics associated with high energy R&D systems including Dense Plasma Focus (DPF) systems, multi kiloampere electron sources, ion sources, and related accelerator components.  You will require extensive expertise in both classic and emergent pulsed power conditioning systems with demonstrated experience leading teams of engineers, associates, and technicians, project planning and estimating skills, and ability to communicate effectively with scientific staff and senior management, to ensure successful implementation of advanced new capability in support of core LLNL Stockpile Stewardship and non-proliferation missions.

Essential Duties
- Lead the development, implementation, testing, and qualification of complex pulsed power systems for high-energy R&D systems.
- Conduct highly complex technical experiments in the field of extremely high peak power and high average power pulsed systems.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data and document results in written reports.
- Prepare and conduct multi-disciplinary peer reviews to ensure that the experiment/tests, hardware are safe and the experimental designs are technically sound.
- Define and prioritize tasks and goals to ensure programmatic needs are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Construct, run, and improve pulsed power performance models utilizing analytical code and numerical simulations.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert in identified areas, routinely interacting with senior management and/or sponsors across the Laboratory on advanced technical projects.
- Establish performance requirements in collaboration with scientific staff and outside sponsors consistent with established and emerging programmatic needs.

Qualifications
- MS in Engineering, Physical Science, or related field or an equivalent level of demonstrated knowledge.
- Significant experience with pulse compression systems and related power conditioning systems for high-energy R&D activities.
- Significant knowledge and experience with both classic and emergent, pulsed power technologies including spark gap/rail gap switches, Marx generators, blumleins, nonlinear magnetics, and inductive adder topologies.
- Significant knowledge and experience with engineering analysis using both frequency- and time-domain techniques.
- Significant experience as a technical/scientific leader in managing, organizing, planning, and coordinating projects with multi-disciplinary teams of experts.
- Significant experience working effectively with all levels of DOE and/or other sponsors.
- Demonstrated subject matter expertise of best practices related to safe operation and maintenance of high energy R&D systems.
- Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to present, explain, and advise sponsors, LLNS management, and collaborators.
